1862: First Meeting With Lasagna

During the autumn outing with his boys, Don Bosco met twelve-year-old Lasagna. The saint asked him whether he wanted to go to Turin with him. When the boy expressed his willingness, Don Bosco asked him to come with his mother the following morning to the rectory in Vignale. (cfr. BM VII, 164)

1956: Cause Of Spanish Martyrs

The first session of the diocesan process for the beatification and canonization of 42 salesian martyrs was held at Madrid. These were the victims of the Red Revolution (1936-1939). Archbishop Emilio Lison, Patriarch of Madrid presided over the function. Father Bellido of the General Council, the five Provincials of Spain and the relatives of the martys were also present. In all there are 97 salesian martyr-servants of God in Spain:
– 42 of Madrid – 33 of Valence – 22 of Seville (cfr. ANS, Dec. 1956)

1958: DeathOf Pius XII

Pius XII died at Castelgandolfo. He was the Cardinal Protector of the Salesian Society from 1935 to 1939, when he succeeded Pius XI. As the Pope he canonized several belonging to the Salesian Family.

– St. Mary Mazzarello (24 June 1951)
– St. Pius X (29 May 1954)
– St. Dominic Savio (12 June 1954)
