1817: Death of Francis Bosco

John Bosco’s father died at the age of 34 when he himself was hardly two years old. (cfr. BMI, 27)

1905: Death of Zeffirino Namuncura (1886-1905)

He was the son of the Chief of the Indians of Patagonia. Mgr. Cagliero baptized him and brought him to Rome for better medical treatment and to help him study for the priesthood. Namuncura died in odour of sanctity at the age of 18 in the hospital of the Fate Bene Fratelli on May 11. (cfr. Zeffirino Namuncura, p. 96)

1944: Zeffirino’s cause

The process for the beatification of Namuncura was introduced at Rome (cfr. “Boll. Sal.” 1915, p. 145-146)

1959: Mortal remains of two saints

The body of St. Pius X on its return from Venice and the body of Don Bosco brought to Rome on the occasion of the consecration of the church in his honour in Rome, were taken in a triumphal procession through the streets of the eternal city. Pope John XXIII venerated the sacred relics in the Square of St. Peter and spoke of the two modern saints. (cfr. “Boll. Sal.” 1959, June)
