1869: Congregation approved

Don Bosco returned from Rome with the good news that the Salesian Congregation was approved on February 19. Hearing the music and the noise, Father Borel, who lay seriously ill in the nearby Rifugio. dragged himself to Valdocco. He wanted to hear from Don Bosco himself of the approbation of the Congregation. On hearing that it was in fact approved, Father Borel said, Deo gratias, Now I can die happy! (cfr. BM IX. 256)

1950: Beatification of Dominic Savio

In the presence of 400,000 piligrims (it was the Holy Year) Pope Pius XII declared Dominic Savio Blessed. Don Bosco had written the first life of the new Beatus. The saintly educator had also foretold that some of the pupils of the Oratory would be canonized! (cfr. “Boll. Sal.”, Aprl -May 1950)
