1884: Itinerant mendicant again
In spite of the fact that he was just recovering after a serious illness and was 69 years old, Don Bosco started a journey to France to seek help for the construction of the church of the Sacred Heart in Rome. The work had been suspended for lack of funds, the Oratory too had a huge debt of 1.126,000 lire. All his friends and well-wishers were against this journey and Dr. Albertotti who examined him told him: “If you reach Nice alive, it would be a miracle”. He made his will before commencing the journey. (cfr. MB XVII, 32)
