1886: The missions

On his return from Pinerolo, Don Bosco found a letter of Bishop Cagliero on his desk. Among other things the Bishop mentioned that the missionaries were about to go into the very centre of Patagonia. The saint wept out of joy and consolation. He recalled how he was ridiculed a few years earlier when he spoke of the pagans of Patagonia. “Are you going to convert the bush and the forests of Patagonia?” they had asked him. (cfr. 1936: Father Joseph Bonet, Martyr (Spanish)

– age 61, a salesian for 39 years and a priest for 32 – martyred at Morrot, cause introduced on December 15, 1953. (cfr, CDB, 310)
